I personally liked the GCN guys. They weren’t technical enough but were interesting enough for general knowledge after which I’d go off to look for individual things like ‘how to clean my chain’ on other channels.
GCN. Also, just search YouTube for what you are looking for and a plethora of tutorials videos will come up.
Saddles are one of the most difficult things to buy, especially since it’s rare to find a bike shop that will allow you to test them. A good bike fitter should be able to give you recommendations based on your build. Some bike shops have equipment that you sit on then provides a readout of your sit bones, etc. this can be helpful if you can find one. All that said, the I’d never buy a saddle online unless you know exactly what you need. And don’t buy on the way it looks. Find a good fitter and get a consultation otherwise you’ll be throwing your money away.
Oo this is cool! Clearly the place I like that I went to didn’t have that level of advanced readings. I’ll call around and ask if they have the ability to do that.
When I switched from skateboard commuting to bicycle commuting, (2005) I spent a lot of time on Bikeforums.net. That stuff is all still quite useful. There is a subforum about commuting and one about bicycle maintenance/mechanical work.
The weekend that I learned the most about bicycles and how they function was when I decided to paint my frame. That involves tearing it down to the bolts and then having to reassemble it.
I still sometimes search for stuff on YouTube. The park tool channel has a lot of good tips.
One more question! Is it almost a given your bike will be stolen at some point, even with high grade locks? 😠 I knew a bike was stolen somewhere today because there was nothing but a U lock hanging there. I have a (heavy) Kryptonite U lock and 2 sturdy combination locks to protect my tires.
Well, leaving it at daycare is okay if it needs a key and if you have a spare one. It would seemingly be a reoccurring place to go
Granted, preferable to bring it home, but if it’s locked and needs your key you should be fine
