I’m about to reach out to a recruiter on LinkedIn about a role I'd be perfect for, but every draft I write feels way too formal and stiff. What's the right way to start a conversation without sounding like a boring cover letter? Any tips for keeping it short and sweet?

Think about how you like to receive emails. Do you prefer them to be conversational and friendly, or more formal? Write it how you would want to read it if you were the one receiving it. I know that sounds a little bit simplistic, but it helps me.

I like this approach. I think we overcomplicate emails sometimes. Writing how I would want to read it keeps it natural and easier to engage with.

Keep it human and direct. One short paragraph. Mention the role, one sharp reason you fit, and ask if they are open to a quick chat. Skip the formal tone. It should feel like a conversation, not a cover letter.

I mean, you’re reaching out to someone on LinkedIn. There’s a good chance they’ll never read it. Just be quick and to the point don’t write a long introduction. paragraph. Two or three sentence in introduce yourself and then get the conversation going.

I agree with keeping it short. I think long messages get ignored. I would focus on being clear and direct rather than trying to impress in the first message.

Hello all! I am looking for a job in finance/investments, but I’m having trouble attracting attention from employers. I have a finance degree from UGA, but all of my experience (3.5 years) is in sales (tech and real estate), so no relevant internships unfortunately. Any advice on how to market myself better and where I should be looking would be greatly appreciated!
