I plan loosely and teach intuitively - following what my students need to work on- it is intentional- someone might think I am winging it, but really, I am following the kids’ lead to take them from where they are to build on their prior knowledge and understandings to move them forward. It is much more effective- I bet you are a great teacher and you are not “winging it” either- you are just following your students’ lead. 😊
If you are ever stressed about a lesson, give students a Station Day. Many students are no longer storing terms in long-term memory. Because of this, I like to divide a large sheet or dry-erase board into sections to make an anchor chart. Accordingly, choose 4-6 literary terms. Have them write a written example then draw a picture. If each student works well with his or her group, the whole class receives 20 points for the assignment. They love it, it is essential for analysis and writing interesting compositions, and easy to grade.
I have a guide but we are not required nor do I complete lesson plans. They are not useful. I wing it most days
I am sure there are many teachers who do the same.
Teaching is like whack a mole, some years we nail management, while others we finally get the lesson planning, or a tidy room. You simply cannot have it all, so set your goal and work on it little by little.
So true. I love the time when a lesson takes on a life of its own, the kids soak up the material, and run with new ideas.
You definitely aren't alone OP. I am in the same boat as you. I frequently wing it and I like to think I am actually pretty good at winging it LOL.
