I’m applying for a new job, but the salary data is a mess. One site says $52k, another says $74k for the exact same local firm. I have a screening call coming up, and don't want to lowball myself or get laughed out of the room. How would you handle the salary expectations question when the public data is this inconsistent?

Asking them their budget range and REALISTICALLY stating where you fall in that range.

There is nothing wrong with asking them what the range is for the position. Also, don't look only at that firm, but get a feel for what other companies pay for your role/experience in your area to give you a good idea of what is reasonable.

I always ask them what their range is for the role when they ask me about my salary expectations. That way, you don’t pigeonhole yourself into a number. I just let them know whether or not my expectations fall within their range.

Has anyone taken the CCRP exam? Currently looking for test prep resources and there are very few. The exam book combo I found on Amazon has mixed reviews and I think the best way for me to prep is to see the questions and get comfortable with them.

Art Directors. How protective are you of your references and resources? I have a folder with lot’s of textures, mockups that I’ve spent time building. I even paid for some of those assets. So I always get a lot of compliments on my comps and decks. Sometimes someone ask for my files and I really don’t want to since I put so much effort on that. But I also feel bad being gatekeeper of things.
