I was really nervous about coming out to my boss, but I did and he was really great + supportive about it. He shared stories about how his wife’s parents were not supportive of their relationship, and while that doesn’t really compare, it’s still something he kinda understands. It was a great conversation.
I agonized about this for a while so I feel for all the folks out here about coming out at work. It really can go in any direction, but know that I believe in you and your sexuality doesn’t (shouldn’t) impact your career trajectory. Your sexuality is a part of the wholesome, awesome being that you are. It doesn’t define you, it doesn’t define your work
Feeling like I need to contribute to the queer employee interest group but also just trying to normalize my identity in general!
Oh this one! I never did contribute and felt cruddy but needed to focus on me. Now not sure how to tell people, but also don’t feel like I necessarily need to.
I feel that. It's tough, especially when you're worried about how people might keep you at a distance at work.
I will say coming out casually by making jokes about people's assumptions is fun too though. It's all about your comfort level though
Honestly, the feeling of isolation. I'm outwardly GNC and queer looking, but I don't enforce my pronouns or talk much queerness or my queer identity (and the things that come with it). Like, I'm not a lesbian but I look like a butch chick. I loathe the immediate association bc I'm trans NB. Ugh.
