I hate this. I'm not very detail oriented I'm very big picture. Which I think is an asset in a lot of ways, I'm always thinking about 10 steps ahead not just overthinking what's right in front of me. But I do find with the amount of deadlines I have that I make mistakes, at least one in every draft. Drives my partner crazy if I don't capitalize on Plaintiff when I did every other time etc. I feel it's overly critical and undermines what it means to be a team. The person who writes it can read it 100 times and won't catch it because it's their own work. Your mind knows what you meant to say and fills in the word you accidently deleted etc. I won't be like this when I'm a partner. I will be part of a team.

I find printing documents out and proofing them in paper form catches most issues.
You can also try running the read aloud tool in Word, if the document is fairly short.
Also: typos are unfortunate but common. Do you have more typos than your peers?

Ugh, I’m so sorry. I suspect that your peers are making similar typos, but not receiving this criticism.
I’m a woman of color and have had my grammar and even intelligence questioned by partners — while my peers could write, speak, and make mistakes freely. So I want to confirm that this is absolutely a pattern at firms.
I would aim for error-free work product but don’t try to be perfect. It’s a waste of time and you need to also be learning the substantive aspects of your practice.
Perhaps pull work product by the partner who gave you this feedback, and follow their style. How error-free is their work product?
Also, conciseness is one way to remove typos. The fewer words you use, the fewer typos there can be ;)
Invest in Grammarly.
Or use your firms AI system. We have something similar to ChatGPT through Microsoft. Can’t remember the name of it right now.
What sort of typos? Is it something that spell check isn't catching?
You can also ask a legal assistant to proofread and give them the list
I use read aloud and it helps a lot. It catches typos where it’s not a misspelling
Make sure to briefly turn all uppercase paragraphs into lowercase so the word can find the spelling errors. That said, 23 yrs and i am still horrible at proofing. Build in time for word processing to proof overnight in track changes or your assistant whenever you can.
Use the read aloud function on word while you are looking at the paper version of the document. Have a legal assistant proofread before sending it in too.
