From what I’ve seen, it depends on the company. Some roles lean more technical and want people who can code or at least read logs and APIs. Others prioritize strong communication skills and business acumen, especially if you’re partnering closely with sales teams. I’d say start applying and see what types of technical questions they ask.
You can definitely do it. It might be more challenging in this market than it would other years, but this is a pivot I've seen others make. The trick I think will be gaining some technical skills (certificates, trainings, etc) while learning to demonstrate that your skillset is an asset to the new roles you're interested in.
I think you just need to be able to learn fast and interested in tech. Your communication skills you've picked up from sales will get you far. You just need to learn tech speak but communicate it clear enough for clients. It's possible to swtich, just be eager to learn new tools, jargon, and workflows.
