I’m getting a lot of feedback that I should focus on becoming more of a subject matter expert, but I feel like my skillset is broad and I like it that way. How do you balance being a generalist versus specializing in one area? Is it really more beneficial to specialize?

Deloitte folks, I need help. I saw a job posting for life science strategy manager. This would be a lane change from my current role as clinical manager. I have a PhD in biology and would love to break into consulting. But not sure how.

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect.
