It seems like the reason you’re getting paid more is that they’re skimping on paralegal services and giving you the leftovers. If you’re okay with that then stay I guess
This is sort of my inclination but I think it’s also just growing pains because they had to hire a new assistant and paralegal to support me and a few others who also recently started. The paralegal and assistant are nice but not up to speed yet.
Is the extra money worth it for having to deal with all of the admin work on top of the legal work? Because if it’s bothering you that much, I’d leave.
I started in ID too with an amazing paralegal and now I’m in house with zero support staff. It’s different of course, but I jumped from a law firm in between because of lack of support staff, since the admin work didn’t fully count as billable and would get rejected by clients often, creating even more of a headache.
I got lucky and retooled into transactional through a law school connection. Essentially started from zero at the second firm (was a small local firm but they only did business/corporate work) I mentioned as like a “first year” even though I was a third/almost fourth year. It was a few years ago when the market was super hot. I went in house after almost two years at the firm.
But four of my ID firm friends left to go in house into litigation roles in house or into corporate/commercial in house for clients, but they were all Partners. I think it’s easier to make the switch as a partner in a more specialized area (like pharma/healthcare or construction) from what I’ve seen though.
No advice but came here to say I totally understand. I just went from the same as you to having an assistant and it’s great
