I’m in a Level 1 Trauma center and I’m pretty sure the local starbucks manager makes more than I do. I spend my days navigating literal life-and-death crises, housing instability, and domestic violence cases, yet my paycheck barely covers my student loans. I love the mission, but the mission doesn't pay for my groceries in 2026. Is anyone else in a helping role actually making a thriving wage?

I was in a patient-facing nursing care role for over 10 years and I switched to the IT department. Not only does it pay much better than nursing, but the stress is less than in nursing, and my nursing background was the segue I needed to put me over the top. I was paid with on the job training to build the charting software and handle the vendors attached to the EHR. I went from a 5 figure hourly wage to a 6 figured salary. When I began to take consulting jobs, my income increased even more, as my stress decreased. Many of the nurses I went to school with either asked me how to get into IT, or found their own way into it or some other segue that's less patient facing. Nursing is a noble profession, but so is that Starbucks manager position - I mean somebody has to manage that caffeinated fuel that runs the martyrs of our hospitals.

Our priorities as a society are all out of whack…

My post is for a lot of folks here who complain about managers not budging to negotiations and not offering package ,what you are expecting.I have one thing to say, there are lot of ibm employees who moved to kyndryl. Inspite of lot of contributions they are earning meagre salary. Now do you expect these people to hire you for more package most of time the package you are demanding is more than what these managers draw. So pls do not look at kyndryl as any other startup.Thanks.

What is the responsibility of an OB hospitalist to advocate for or against sterilization (specifically tubal litigation) if any? I had a very controversial experience with an OB that made me wonder how much we should be trying to influence our patients' decisions "in their best interest." So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.
