Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

It doesn’t hurt to ask but you’ll get a much bigger bump by hopping to another company. They have no motivation — you’ve been there 10 years and they didn’t care to do it. Why now? Technical writers in tech firms make 3x that much and many jobs are remote.

I found this quote which I thought was appropriate..
“love yourself enough to remove yourself from spaces where you are not valued or appreciated”
@H1, I hope you find something better

Time to move on. If they don’t see your worth after 10 years, they never will.
It’s time to go!!! They are taking advantage of you bc I would hire someone brand new making way more than you do. It’s time to go. You owe them nothing
I would say apply somewhere else, get an offer and then ask for a raise. You should easily be making about 90K
The best way to get more money so to leave. Honestly. I worked at a company for 14 years. Made 65k. Left and immediately got a 40% bump.
Have applied to Google, Amazon, and Red Hat over my lunch break today. Thanks everyone for the encouragement!
Drop me your resume, I do hirings at my company, and Ill see what you got.
Definitely ask. Honestly I feel like you can get double your salary at another company given your years of experience.
Leave! My sister recently started a remote technical writing gig (she's in FL, company in DC). Idk her comp, I think 90k+. similar YOE
It doesn’t hurt to ask, right.
Go somewhere else! My friend was a copy editor in retail and then made the move to tech. Now works at Amazon and makes $$$. Have another friend who has an editorial background and is at Google. You can do it! (Side note: I was at a company for 10+ years and now kicking myself at how long I spent there. I was very underpaid but didn’t realize by how much and now trying to catch up to my market value. I’ve increased my salary about 40% since leaving).
I would start job shopping. Every time I have ever moved, it’s been about a 15-20k increase and I don’t have a degree or work in the same field as you. I bet you would have even better luck.
Your value goes up every 1-2 years, you’re undervalued at your company. I agree with other comments either get another offer to negotiate or move on to something that will meet all your expectations. It’s a candidates market

With a masters and ten years 120k isn’t asking anymore than reasonable. Go get another offer and roll out! Always forward never back
Ask for the raise and search for new employment. Your replacement would be making market rate way more than what they are likely to give you as a raise.
You are not being paid what you are worth.
Ask for more. There are lots of podcasts that outline how to ask the right way.
Start looking also. If your not learning or earning its time to go.
In the midwest you should be getting 90k to 110k.
Definitely ask for a raise and start looking for another job!
