I’m staring to get really burnt out at my job, it’s not stimulating or any kind of challenge but the job market is just so awful right now it’s hard to even begin on how to start looking. What tips do you have for sorting through all the job prospects so you don’t start applying for ones that are a bad fit?

I stopped trying to filter and just started applying to anything that looked reasonable. You can always say no later. Trying to find the perfect fit before you even apply is a good way to never apply to anything.

Yeah a wider net is always smart, I think it’s just the effort of going through new applications for stuff that isn’t even that appealing is a lot.

It’s hard right now finding “good” jobs.

like

Yeah it’s really hard with how bad the market is and how low salaries are.

You’re not alone. I’ve been feeling burned out for a year now, and while I’ve been looking for a new role, I haven’t found much. Lately, I’ve actually been using AI to help narrow down my job search and apply for roles that are a good fit.

Yeah that’s a good use of AI, I can see how that can be super useful in a job search.

Try to compartmentalize work. Then make a plan on what you are truly looking for, and what’s the worst you’d accept. From there you can start your search, have conversations etc.

Luckily I don’t have a problem with that I’m able to disconnect from work very well but I think that hinders the looking for a job motivation too.

Hang in there!

Thank you!

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Considering working from India for a couple of years due to personal reasons. Any advice for Salary expectations/negotiations? Haven't worked in India for over a decade.

Senior consultant, came into Deloitte with over 14 YOE (industry), in the FSI -> IM space, expertise & experience in buy side asset management.

If you are open/willing to offer referrals, happy to talk. Any insights are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
