Power point slides
Just because you don't have much relevant experience doesn't mean you can't contribute meaningfully. But I think if your direct reports have been in the function for a few years, they'll see that you have limited relevant experience and there's no point hiding from them or pretending that you have more experience than them.
This is an opportunity for them to step up. For you, besides being there as a sounding board and absorbing as much as you can, project manage and make sure you take care of other things so your team can be the most effective to do the groundwork.
I would also rely on your manager to provide general directions.
Hmm…”no direct experience on the actual tasks”…so what did you bring to the table to get hired if don’t know how to do the tasks you were hired for?
I’m guessing hired for all the softer skills ie customer centric (important for an insights lead), ability to quickly learn, critical thinking. I’m in same boat and did not hide that I hadn’t done many of the specific types of research.
To answer op - rely on any internal SOPs of course but also don’t be afraid to rely on vendor expertise
Coach
I usually reference SOPs, work instructions, training and recorded trainings, and my notes prior to asking someone.
Your notes from where PM1?
I’m asking this because in consulting, there are so many resources (database, past work, benchmark, etc) that you can get your hands on yourself. I can pick up any product, problem, industry and able to know how to start. But in the industry I’m not sure what resources I can have.
