I'm thinking about how important mentorship is for career growth. I've had some great mentors who helped me along the way. How has mentorship affected your work life? Have you ever been a mentor?

It really can make a world of difference in the trajectory of your career. I've never had a formal mentor, but a few great managers that were so wonderful about taking the time to help me when I was first getting started in my career. I learned so much from them and do my best to pay it forward by being that same type of leader to my team.

I love hearing about people being mentored, shows as a company you have employees/ managers that care and want to see younger people progress in the company. It really goes go a long way.

I totally agree—mentorship has been such a valuable part of my career growth too. I’ve had great experiences with company-organized mentorship programs, but I’ve also noticed that once those programs end, the connection can sometimes fizzle out. It’s felt a little awkward trying to keep the momentum going or asking someone directly to continue mentoring me.

One thing I’ve learned is that mentorship doesn’t always have to be formal. Sometimes just reaching out to someone you admire for a coffee chat or asking for advice on a specific topic can naturally evolve into a mentoring relationship. I’m still figuring it out, but I’ve found that being intentional and showing appreciation for someone’s time goes a long way.

I've noticed that my coworkers tend to work more on their own than with others, even when they're all in the office. Is this normal? I feel like it would be helpful for everyone to talk about their projects more often—I mean, what if someone else has solved the same problem you're trying to solve already?
