I personally would not. Even if I was on friends basis with my boss.
Nope. Safe bet is to not let them know unless you accept an offer somewhere else. As close as you may be to your coworkers, it can get messy when you're looking for a new job. Just because you understand why you're leaving doesn't mean they will.
The only time I've ever done this was when I was on a team where even my boss agreed that the company was not treating employees well and she was also planning to leave as soon as she could. She understood why I was looking to move and gave me a great recommendation because she cared about me getting out of that toxic work environment (which she had little power to change). Other than that, no I never would.
No. They don’t need references. They just want to verify that you worked there. Offer to show them paystubs instead. I’m against references generally, you never need to give them.
