In economics or finance, there is nothing truly new; it’s all about how it’s presented. The terminology is crafted to sound sophisticated, allowing for fees to be charged. An IPO is when shares are sold for the first time. A bond is essentially a form of borrowing. Leverage also refers to borrowing. To short is to sell, while to long is to buy. Quantitative Easing involves the Central Bank buying assets. A stimulus is a measure to increase spending. Know something else we should simplify?

I can agree with that to some extent. There is often a complexity premium built into the work. At times it can seem that simple concepts are expressed in extravagant terms which justify a management fee. And love it or hate it, that complexity premium may pay for your beach house some day.

I agree with you.

I mean, yes the concepts when broken down to the bare minimum foundations are indeed simple. But i dont get what you’re suggesting?

Is economics/finance MEANT to be about ‘truly new’ concepts? If so, whats the timeframe? Corporate debt and the instruments available to them, evolve every 12-24 months

Just got a freelance gig for $1250 for 2 shoot days, but they’re asking for hourly rate for prep days. Not sure what rate to give them & if I should base it on a 10 or 12 hr hourly rate. It’s LA based & content/digital production. I’m not a fan of hourly rates, but I don’t want to lose the gig or end up agreeing to less days than I actually end up working..

I’ve been negotiating a settlement on behalf of a client. OP is a major corp. we’ve gone back and forth for months, almost a year. Finally came to a final agreement and we’re reviewing for final signature. Then client is reviewing and decides they want something else modified. It’s a point of contention. OP has said no. Should I communicate this to client before pushing back against OP’s rejection of the mod?
