Its not rude. In my opinion I think its worth the risk. Its a low downside with a high upside decision. You have nothing to lose. Go for it
As long as you were on friendly terms with them when you worked together, I don't think so. It's obviously going to be coming out of the blue, but so what? The worst they can do is say no. The upside is worth the awkwardness.
It’s only rude if you aren’t nice when you ask! In this job market, I’d be more than happy to provide somebody solid a referral if I was in the position to do that.
8 years! I wouldn’t. Now, if you’ve been liking their posts on LinkedIn personal or professional that’s different. Or saying congrats. But if it’s been radio silence. No! When ppl do that to me I ignore them. Also, if you have to ask your gut is already speaking. Trust your resume.
