Is it more cost effective to hire a consultant for ongoing work in Salesforce or to hire on an internal admin (full or part time)? Context: I have a small business customer who is already leveraging an SI but needs help building out messaging for Pardot/MC email journeys, can attend training with SI team or is already trained in Pardot/MC, etc so it’s less about buildout and more around strategy and messaging.

Sounds like they need a digital marketing strategist, rather than an admin. Usually folks in marketing can take on this work.

Look at how much work they think they’ll need and how fast they want to get things done then compare consulting rates to an FTE.

Look at a job share situation. I know aspiring admins that are also interested in marketing automation. The marketing side is harder to learn without a client log in though. With small businesses the fight is how your talent gets valuable skills and is headhunted away for $20K more. So every 6-18 months you have to refill the position.

Counter this dilemma with shared roles. 2 people sharing a set of responsibilities. Admin/marketer 60 hrs per week. They can divide up the hours however they like with a common 30/hr work week each.

The shared role has resilience because any time one person leaves you likely still have the other. More rare to lose both at the same time.
