I'm curious what the average salary is for an Associate Agent. I'm licensed & do everything after the sale is made as well as refer new business. I have 14 years in the industry but have been at the current company less than a year, so I know that plays a part as well. Anyone in a like-position by chance?State Farm Allstate Travelers

Pretty normal for everyone to play up and down right now. I haven’t worked on a fully staffed engagement in like 4 years
Sad that this is normal
Damn - public accounting has become unbearable
Very normal these days. My last engagement didn’t have seniors so I just work as one. My other engagement I just did preparer’s work and submit to partner for direct review. That’s why I’m out
OP, I sure hope you get career advice from many sources beyond the partner. If it were the case that this were not a short-term situation, do you think the partner would have told you? They are going to tell you whatever they have to to get you to stay.
I remember when partners used to actually get their hands dirty in the details with staff and seniors, and build morale. I remember when having a good manager was the best thing ever at work because you were excited for someone to teach you how to do you job - and how to do it better - and it was respectful and dare I say fun. I remember being mentored before we were ever allowed to approach the client in conversation. I remember being a staff and working hard and playing harder, because we had time to and we earned a break and some fun. And I remember being an intern in a full on suit everyday running around trying to impress literally anyone at anything to have a shot at a job. I can remember classes of 75 potential candidates visiting offices and our pipeline wasn’t dry. I remember making more than my friends out of college and being relatively happy with this work for like… a couple years.
But none of that is the same anymore. All the good morale and fun is GONE. The work sucks - we’re not even allowed to do it we just hand it overseas and gripe at polite underpaid people first thing every morning. Managers? What managers lol? Where are they? All gone because all this crap sucks? So generous of them to take any of us with them. 🙃 I’ve been stuck at the senior level forever because the support that was promised to help pass the CPA exam is never real. And I hate it so much. Associate year still seems pretty solid. The criteria for interns is like “are you a person in accounting classes that wants a bunch of free shit and will be a body in a chair that doesn’t actually do anything?! Sign up!”
This is nothing new in PA and unless you are on a very high priority client you will likely be doing the role below your to some degree and should pretty much be expected. 10 years ago I knew partners that were documenting controls due to lack of staff. It’s become the norm to where I just consider this being a manager in PA.
Yes - last busy season I was Director/Manager/Senior on at least one client as roles never got filled. Already been made clear not to expect the roles to be filled again…
Jeeze - how many Staff do you have? You might as well open up a new baby sitting center
We call those senagers.
Sometimes those are the jobs with the best efficiency. No staff, manager does all the work.
Haha yup, I’m doing them right now. I wanna say I’m joking but I’m not. I also delete Partners review notes on non-critical sections w/o reading them lol
And then it will be held against you at performance rating time for lacking delegation skills.
Seniors are the most valuable part of the team, as far as getting things done. It’s a wonder any of us make it past that level.
It’s not normal - you only take on seniors and managers roles, typically managers would act as seniors thru directors (has been my life for years now I’m a director still have to act as a senior from time to time).
I do this daily. Audit teams are not always staffed appropriately.
