I returned from maternity leave in January to new leadership, and I just can’t help but think that I was targeted because I’m a remote worker and a mother.
Company is toxic, so it’s not even about the layoff. But I do believe I’m deserved a better severance package.
I asked if it was negotiable, and was told by the HR rep that it was not and that it is our holding companies corporate policy.
Has anyone out there been able to negotiate a longer severance?
Yes, I negotiated a better severance package with the assistance of an attorney after a layoff from a big tech company. At the time, was an executive with a large role (was a mom of a 1 year old & had documented times where my direct boss had made inappropriate comments like “I don’t think moms should work outside the house”). An attorney would likely charge per hour, so unless you have proof (better than a hunch) &/ are considered a protected class in your state, you may want to weigh if it is worth it…
1 week/month is not standard. 1-2 weeks/year is. Ask for the corporate policy.
I've always heard that severance at my firm is one week/year, so that sounds standard to me. Hard to say if there's anything else nefarious about the situation. If you work in an at-will state, they can fire you at any time for any reason, unless it's for a protected reason. If they just felt like they could downsize a little, you were probably the easiest position to cut.
Our firm is one week per year as well so this is in line.
Deloitte doesn’t have a set policy. The offer will vary by service line and level and sometimes length of service. Typically it’s one week per year.
