Job hopping pretty much the best way to get real good pay increases so yea
Been in the industry for 8 years, worked at 5 firms. Every jump was a promotion or a big pay bump. Just the way of the world these days. Loyalty is actually punished now. Just keep learning and growing your skill set and the opportunities will follow.
It’s been this way since the 1980s
Lol hell yeah. Folks firm hop all the time. And I myself, am not above it either.
Never made sense to me… But it is what it is I suppose.
Just “leave and come back” if you have to lol
Yes, I used to work in banking. The job hopping happens inside a bank, and from bank to bank as well. It's almost necessary to get raises, new titles,, etc.
Rising Star
In this environment, turnover is low at most professional services firms.
Were you at your current employer when the market was hot back in ‘21/‘22?
No, I was on disability. What company is this, please let me know.
Job hoping is almost needed if you don’t work at a company that values retention. I had to leave my first two jobs after 1.5 years and no movement. My current employer 4x my salary over 5 years, so I have been lucky to land at a good company and plan on staying for the long term.
Job hopping is the only way to get decent pay increases. Loyalty gets you nothing in todays market
Definitely. Have worked 3 different places in a decade. Have moved positions within organizations as well. All advice I’ve gotten from other people with more experience is even if you’re not “looking” always keep your eye open for an opportunity. It’s the best way to get pay increases and promotions.
ABC - always be checking (the job boards)
Job hoppers make more money on average. A new company will almost always be willing to pay more to get you than your existing employer will to keep you. I was at a small bank for 4 years kept asking for a raise after taking on tons of responsibilities and helping team members with 10-20 yoe solve complex problems. eventually got like $2 per hour. Left a year later for like 40% more. 2nd employer wasn’t so friendly so a year after that i left and got another 20% bump plus OT now im making 2x that role. Current role just had 2 people in the team leave in the past month lol
Werk that system
We had 37% turnover per year.
Very rare in Sapient
Depends which area of finance you are in. That is a very broad net--if you are in restructuring, for example, or private equity. A lot of interim roles or project roles. Also, since 2008, job hopping has been a solid way to increase salary in an otherwise stagnant labor market.
