Is there a better way to find a railyard in a new city other than typing “railyard” into google maps?

I guess a lot of walking and asking people around town. Why wouldn't you want to search with Google Maps? Can't find any?

There might be a better way to find a railyard in a new city, but I'm not sure what it is. I would try contacting the city's transportation or public works department to see if they have a list of railyards in the area. Alternatively, you could try searching for "industrial areas" or "warehouses" in the city's map search bar.
