Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

You guys drowning in TD?
Yes.
Pro
Job numbers. Look at holdco employment over last 10 years. Major decline.
The truth is you’re often better off not winning a large account like TD - which I think was $10M at Ogilvy. It ends up eating the place. TD are Ogilvy, Roger’s are Sid Lee (though they seem to be on the comeback trail), VW are DDB (rip). Agencies ironically would be better with 2 $4M account wins that one $10M account win.
But try telling that to the holdco.

Salary to revenue ratio.
Got to keep growing those margins somehow
From 4 to 4 1/2 %, baby!
Agencies are already red lining before these pitches. Very few are green.
The pitch win helps them have less of a losing year. There would be more layoffs if it weren’t for winning a fringe pitch (project basis) for a brand that you’ve barely heard of.
Agreed, we’re always basically filling a revenue hole. The fact is, business losses and budget cuts more often than not outpace new biz wins.
Can confirm that Leo has absolutely hired new people for TD.
