I personally haven't. No one seems to respond quickly in my sad job hunting experience 😂. I think I've only applied to like one grocery store though. I might have to look at more if they actually get back to the people submitting applications.
Grocery stores tend to hire all year round, whereas clothing stores tend to hire more seasonally, and they probably just had a bunch of seasonal employee layoffs. Even if they are hiring, it's likely going to be slower than a grocery store, which pretty much always needs people.
I wish here in England there were more grocery jobs and clothes shops jobs , available. So bad here nothing to apply for
I think there is the AI algorithm that does not help and for example people can apply on Indeed and we NEVER see their applications. If you apply on the company website we do see them. I think the system is broken when you use glass door or indeed your taking a chance your application will never be seen.
I heard most place are using AI now for hiring and that’s the issue because it’s looking for certain stuff on resumes. I wish I knew what! I’m having issues too finding work! I’ve applied to tons of places , Walmart, Home Depot, offices, at home work too. It’s gotten to be real frustrating but I’m just praying and will continue to loo and apply.

Small places seem to be faster than large organizations. Restaurants also are fast if they’re in need of people!
Pro
Agreed on both. Larger companies have a much longer hiring process. Restaurants have higher turnover, so they are always looking for people
I live in an area with Kroger and they responded very quick. I applied to Walmart two weeks ago and haven't heard a thing. It might depend on the store as well.
The town I live in, 1 HR person covers 4 Walmarts. I walked in, left my name and # and Walmart hired me over the phone the next day.

Yeah, it’s pretty common. Grocery stores usually move fast because they’re constantly short-staffed, while clothing or specialty stores can take longer with multiple interview rounds and approvals.

Yes I think grocery stores probably have higher turnover so they need people quickly

This is such a good example of how one calm human moment can reset everything. You didn’t solve a policy issue or speed up the line magically, you just showed empathy and it shifted the entire environment. That’s the stuff people remember long after the transaction.

It’s not just luck. Grocery tends to move faster because turnover is higher and staffing gaps hurt immediately. Clothing stores can afford to be slower and pickier, even if it doesn’t feel fair when you’re waiting.
