I've been in the same role for about six years, and I'm starting to feel like I'm out of the loop on what's happening in the job market. I'm also worried about forgetting how to interview. I'm thinking about going on some interviews to stay sharp and see what my skills are worth. It's not necessarily that I want to leave my current job, but I'm mostly just curious. I also want to be ready, just in case. Is this a good idea for staying on top of everything?

I don't see any problem with that, people interview for lots of reasons. And who knows? You might accidently stumble upon your dream job.

Don't underestimate how difficult it is to get an interview right now. Just for you to get one of those practice interviews might take you 100 or more applications. The job market is bad bad. My advice would be to practice with chatgpt. Spend your time polishing up your resume in case you need it.

You should absolutely interview occasionally. Apply for jobs you find interesting. It's always better to look for a job while you're employed, and you never really know what opportunities might show up, unless you look around. The market does suck right now, but that should have no bearing on you continuing to apply.
