I’ve been traveling for work again and hotels crack me up lately—rates are higher than ever, but service feels like it’s on a budget plan 😂Rooms don’t get refreshed unless you ask, front desk feels rushed, and those little touches that used to make a stay special seem to be fading. Is this just the post-pandemic norm now, or am I staying at all the wrong places?

Probably a combination of the two honestly. I've had some great hotel stays over the past few years, and some that were much more in line with what you're describing. It's why I stay almost exclusively in Airbnbs. The only times I've stayed in hotels were for weddings with a room block or because I was somewhere that had minimal Airbnb options. If I've got the choice, I want my own place every single time.

I hear you. Airbnbs definitely feel more worth it when you’ve got the choice. Hotels just don’t have that cozy, personal vibe anymore, I never stayed at Airbnb for work trips but may give a try next time.

This is the most accurate thing I have read today!!! It feels like nobody wants to work anymore to be honest with you.

Right?! It really does come across that way, like the effort and pride in good service just isn’t there anymore.

I’m curious, does your work comp you for hotel rooms?

Yes, they do cover hotels but with a limit in $ amount.

Honestly, I feel like nowadays if people are getting paid minimum wage then they do the minimum effort, and tbh I don’t blame them!

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕
