How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

I took a sick day last week to go to the beach lol take your sick days
I love that for you! I really gotta get on that.
First of all, congratulations on your incredible immune system. But I would absolutely take some time off. Part of your compensation is sick time and part of your overall health is your mental health. I would encourage you to start taking some time off to really take care of yourself and process things. You deserve it!
Absolutely! Not taking your allocated time off is sort of like leaving money on the table.
I can't decide if that is genuinely impressive or a little sad. Do you just never get sick, or do you always push through when you are sick? Take your sick days every year, you deserve to have that extra time to yourself. I once took a sick day because I felt like baking and decorating a cake. It was delicious.
Truthfully both! I am lucky that I don’t get sick often. But I also power through any time I feel a little under the weather; I also work remote so I feel a little guilty taking the day
But this thread is heavily encouraging me to take a sick day more often!
My company puts our sick time and paid time off all in one bank. So it really doesn't matter if we are sick or take PTO because it all comes out of the same pot. However, sometimes I do call in on a Monday or Friday to give myself a three day weekend.
Personal days yes. I do only use sick time when actually sick. I know we're entitled to it, but as much as you don't want to admit it, there are optics of being the person that calls out somewhat frequently. And that does hurt your career.
Actually surprised here how many people advocate for just calling out sick. I see no issue planning time out of office and fully utilizing PTO days that you're entitled to. But just calling out does leave your team in a pinch, and other people still do have to do that work for you. It'll put you behind professionally eventually.
