I’ve caught myself feeling nervous before speaking in certain rooms, even when I know I’m prepared. Has a workplace ever changed how confident you feel in your own voice?

I have worked in some fairly contentious environments and it could be intimidating to speak in some circumstances. There was a pervasive feeling that anything you said was going to be challenged or nitpicked to death. That tends to keep you reticent.

It definitely has, and that’s usually how I know it’s time to look for something else. No job is worth sacrificing your confidence—you shouldn’t have to feel nervous and anxious all the time.

I've definitely felt this way in workplaces where I didn't feel supported. Support from my manager or my team. It's so much easier to speak up and speak out when you have people behind you, not people actively trying to sabotage you.

Happens all the time

Yes, to the point where I started taking anxiety meds which is crazy when I think about it.

Do NOT claim you are "colorblind" in the workplace. 1. DE&I knowledge is now a core leadership competency. Colorblind claims will earn you the reputation of being DEI-ignorant at best & racist at worst. 2. Colorblindness within the context of workplace diversity is an obvious lie. You do NOT want to be painted as an intellectually dishonest leader. 3. Colorblind claims signal that you lack the leadership skills & vocabulary to have key conversations.
