When is it best to leave consulting? Here's how I think about it.

First, are you enjoying it? If so, why leave (it can be a great life long career)?

Second, are you still learning fast? If not, you're missing out.

Last, what skills do most employers value? In my experience, this dictates 2 optimal jumping off points:

(a) 2-3 years in. Consulting "tool kit" is solid

(b) ~1-2 year into Manager. Employers value experience managing people.

Does anyone have experience working for a ALSP? How does compensation work (pay and benefits)? Are you an employee or technically an IC? Do you have billable requirements like at a firm? My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?

Does anyone have advice on transitioning from insurance to another industry? I am Vice President of a small commercial brokerage- basically I do everything except write the checks. I want to move to a more structured corporate role in marketing or strategy somewhere like American Express or JP Morgan. Any thoughts? Anyone successfully pivoted? I can’t even get an interview outside of the insurance industry. I have 2.5 years experience in insurance, before that I was in restaurant management.

Here is my idea for a startup! I collect all the data from career transitions and use Data Analytics to predict the most likely career transitions. I could start with consulting. What do you guys think about this? I would be able to predict based on your firm(mbb, big4), your experience, which role you are likely to move (Faang pm, strategy manager, move to mbb).
