I'm torn on this. I've given reference info out in pre-interview stages before. Always felt embarrassing to have to notify them before I even got an interview yet though. I do think it's becoming more common, but it also seems like interviewers are actually calling references a lot less frequently
I'm with you OP. I'm not handing over references until the conversations have advanced significantly.
Same here. I even had one recruiter get annoyed when I said no, which told me everything I needed to know. A solid recruiter should respect that your references aren’t just free leads.
