Which firm hires the dumbest people?
Does anyone here work for Silicon Valley Bank? They recently acquired Boston Private. I’m a candidate for a job at Boston Private. Wondering if SVB is planning layoffs in the near term at BP? Also, does anyone know the anticipated benefits to be rolled out from SVB as the parent company? Specifically interested in health insurance providers. Thanks in advance for any information! It just happened to me. I had applied to a position at another organization that would have been roughly a lateral move. I never even got an interview for it.
Several months later, the hiring manager emailed me out of the blue saying that I was overqualified for that role, but that another position had opened and he thought I would be a good fit, He asked me to apply. I did. Went through three rounds of interviews, then got a verbal offer that would have increased my top-line income by >50%. That was 4:45 PM on a Friday.
I informed the recruiter I would respond to the offer early the following week. I asked about various elements of total compensation. I emailed her with a list of detailed questions Monday, Then... nothing. Despite emailing and leaving voicemail, it was just crickets for over a week.
Then the recruiter calls, apologizes for the delay, and says she wanted to respond with total comp details earlier but the department had, "Sudden and unforeseen circumstances negatively impacting budget... high-level discussions about team size and team member roles... we can no longer offer you this role."
I specifically asked if the decision was due to anything in my background. She said no. I have no idea what "unforeseen circumstance" can magically appear in a couple day's time that would prompt an employer to burn a bridge like that,
What I do is highly specialized, and I can count the number of employers in my area who employ someone like me on one hand. This was the biggest and best of the bunch. The job would have been a huge step up for my career and my family's well-being. Literally the only silver lining was that I had not yet resigned from my current job.
I feel like all hope just evaporated in an instant. I'm fighting severe depression. I can't sleep. I can barely function. And I can never trust anything that employer says going forward.
