Just a rant but I am so frustrated. Partner assigned something to me and Senior Associate and it seemed relatively straightforward, just find the law and apply to our facts. BUT senior associate went off the rails and turned the MOL into this overwrought paper beyond what is needed for the relief we seek.

How do I explain to the partners that I wanted to keep it simple…

uh, you don’t. lol

Let the senior explain their f-up. Do not let the senior try to pin any of this nonsense on you if the partner is unhappy with it. Keep everything in writing: what work you did vs. the work they did.

like

Its not about you atm. Let the senior do their thing.

like

I wouldn't.

The partners will figure it out. I have gone through this, and the partners just started working with me directly.

like

You dont.

It's possible the senior actually does know more than you about how the assignment should have been handled, in which case you'll piss them off and look silly to the partner if you try to act like you knew better.

In the event you do know better than the senior, not all attorneys like a snitch, or respect someone who saw what they thought was a trash fire and did nothing to stop it/spoke up to say "I told you so." So there's the risk you piss off the senior and don't actually fix your reputation with the partner.

Hey, I received a verbal offer from EY for a role as manager, which was quite a low ball offer. I had received another offer from a different firm and I informed EY HR about it. I was told yesterday that they have an updated offer for me, scheduled the call twice with me but didn't actually call and told me she got occupied in other meetings. I have not got a response from her yet on the mails, should I contact the hiring partner directly? other firm is asking me to update as well.

Hello!
I was wondering what kind of contractual or other barriers I might face if I apply for one of the big 4 while working on a project with them in my current company.
I am not too involved in the project but I was in a few meetings and went on a field trip with them as well.
The position that I am applying for is in a different team and city.
Will this considered “poaching” if the consulting firm hires me? Would they need to talk to my current employer?

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.
