Spending and taxes have to be in balance. If you’re already running deficits, does a giant tax cut for the rich help?
AOC is one media-savvy representative from a heavily Democratic district. She’s just as powerful as Steve King, the white supremacist from a heavily Republican district.
The Democrats are certainly moving to the left, but somehow Biden is leading all the presidential primary polls. So...I wouldn’t worry that the Democrats are enthralled by socialism
“Socialism stuff is psycho” - let’s dive deep into that for a second. Less expensive college education, thereby providing a platform for the next generations to be better educated, which in turn leads to more Americans able to meet more job requirements, is psycho?
Healthcare available to all, leading to more broadly available medicine and access to care, which leads to better senior citizen health, in turn reducing the financial burden we place on the populace, is psycho?
Or would you the current conditions flourish, resulting in more imbalance between the haves and have nots, all in the name of capitalism?
But what do I know, I only care about the broader populace and not just the ones with money
Yep, just like Canada, Scandinavian countries, and plenty of other European countries. One feels horrible looking at the people eating dogs there
with) - find AOC to be crazy? Like I’m shocked that I keep finding myself inside the Republican Party as of recent. This socialism and Green Party stuff and free this / that is psycho. We have the business knowledge to know our govt is spending unsustainably - these folks want to hit the gas?
Lol, no. And btw––you’re literally targeting one congresswoman out of 235 Dems, which is really weird. Maybe spend some time asking yourself what it was in your media diet that made you focus just on her. The right wing loves to pick out specific Dems and make boogeymen out of them––don’t fall for it.
Last, if you voted for the people who cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy and businesses to the tune of $1.5T, you don’t actually care about balanced spending. That’s just a thing you’re saying, and you like them for other reasons. Why?
Just curious how an Obama voter can morally justify voting for Trump’s cruelty, corruption, and sheer incompetence...
So far it seems you don’t like the left because it lets women be articulate and strong-willed, and because the Dems want to spend government money on the poor instead of the wealthy.
Why were you even an Obama voter in the first place, OP?
Perfectly stated
You know what’s psycho? Thinking it’s ok to go with the status quo and resist change, and to continue falling behind other developed nations in so many areas we once prides ourselves. Sure, one size doesn’t fit all and you can’t cookie cutter solutions to health care, voting rights, reproductive rights, biases, etc. but this country is currently embarrassing to me
Nearly all the political options leave a lot to be desired. I’m a moderate that has been democrat in every pre-trump election rooting for Clinton, Gore, and Obama as a kid. Then voting Obama. Then flipping to Trump, which will repeat in 2020. I favor the democrats on most issues going issue by issue and viewing each side from a directional perspective. The issue is - is they are insane when they want to do anything about them. Socialism for college - rather than enhancing paths other than college. Socialism for medicine - on red tape that makes our expenses way outreach what we have. Enact an assault weapons ban - confiscate the property of sporadic firearms owning law abiding people (literally take their stuff...practically, how’s that supposed to turn out). To be frank, pro-illegal immigration, kind of black/white there. I hate the tax plan, but honestly anything that walks us towards libertarianism isn’t horrible, but the deficit needs to be corrected. That being said the smallest govt role in anything would be great because they mess up everything.
So you found Hilary to be so extreme left that you voted for Trump and plan to to do it again in 2020, in spite of what all have happened - you are not moderate, you are the base - the 30%. The base which elected Trump in the primaries coz they must have thought that Rubio or Bush was too extreme right - they needed a moderate. Call yourself moderate if it helps you sleep.
Labels don’t help - I don’t think you are scaring anyone on this platform by slapping label of socialism on important health care and education issues. But if you do want to try I have got a better label for you - plan for ‘socialism’ for college devised by ‘latte drinking’ liberals and funded by ‘Soros’
If you don’t believe in college then don’t use the program, but there are others who believe that education is important for social mobility and is currently incredibly expensive in the USA . I am sure an Obama care kind of model can be adopted which lets states decide how much to fund the program. You can then move to to one of those states which predictably will underfund the program and marvel at your libertarian principles. Btw I hope you plan to donate your social security benefits to charity, it’s welfare after all
The hypocrisy of libertarians is unbelievable. The states with most libertarian streaks rely most on federal aid, have highest dependence on SNAP and Obama Care and worst deficits. But as I said, whatever help you sleep.
Green Party stuff is psycho? Calling for more use of renewable energy is psycho? Calling for better public transportation is psycho? Trying to drag our crumbling infrastructure up by investing more into newer development is psycho?
I’m sure you’ve done exhaustive research into exactly what they’re proposing, other than “oh my god more taxes!!!” So would love to hear why you think unsustainable spending is bad when compared to unsustainable tax cuts for the wealthy
I’m a democrat and also not a fan of democratic socialism (Bernie and Elizabeth are too left wing for me). But I could never in a million years vote for trump for a variety of reasons. He also turned me off really early with his statements to and about black people.
It’s psycho to think that transferring to M4A will be easy. How are you expanding Medicare to cover the 86% of seniors who receive supplemental care, what happens to retirees who access private insurance as part of retirement and pension packages, do retired union members just lose benefits? And how do you ‘increase access’ when you are adding new patients to the system? Do you expect more doctors to magically appear? And what’s your response to the doctor shortage in the country, the avg doc is over 50, if their salaries are reduced, won’t more retire?
It’s crazy and lazy to confuse the deep complications of these systems for a general affinity for the slogan ‘Medicare for all’ and just an example of how shallow and tribal the conversation has become.
You can make the same argument (sloganeering vs. policy making) for almost everything AOC believes.
As a NYCer opposition to Amazon alone is more than enough reason to think of her as batshit crazy.
Well, she mainly Tweets things, which is pretty unfiltered. So not much power of “the media”. And if your issue is that some people agree with her, not sure what to say about that
So in a 2 party system shouldn’t we expect extreme views on each end of the spectrum? On the GOP side you have borderline white nationalists like Steve King and on the Democratic side you have idealists like AOC.
And please, when you elucidate on the “extremity” of the GND, please compare it to the extremity of climate change.
Pwc I personally think you have bought into a false narrative propagated by power mongers but if you’re really on the side of the practical social left fiscal conservative check out Pete Buttigieg.
V.P. : This is beyond weird now, it’s embarrassing. I am not banned, neither have I lost my job - how low of self awareness does it take to make such assertions. And what’s with the apology, who are you apologizing to, are you doing it on my behalf - don’t do it, we are not living in an Victorian era
D3: Good to know someone is policing the internet. Hate speech ..... good lord. While I am getting schooled in art of sarcasm could you please tell me what flat sarcasm is? I want to make sure I add the right curves to my next post.
This such a digression. If either of you have any disagreements with what I posted in my long rant above then feel free to write. But if even after reading it (and me making it clear that it was a satire) you can’t decide which side of gays rights debate I am then l am out of ideas.
