Just curious to know if this is my own problem, but how early in the morning do you check your phone for work-related things like checking your emails or opening Slack, etc.? I think I Sadly I check first thing in the morning, partly because work is just on my phone! And I end up losing any free mind space because subconsciously, work stress has already started hitting me. Do you do this too? If not, how did you create a boundary for yourself?

I get up around 545ET to go to the gym, I don’t check my phone until around 830ET once I’ve showered and had breakfast and I’m having my coffee. I have separate work and personal phones. It’s done wonders for calming my nervous system as I start the day.

I had a bad habit of going in social media first thing in the morning. i got the Opal app to block social media for certain times of the day and although you can over pass it its nice that you click on the app and it won’t let you access it, you have to go to the opal app and do something to bypass it.
in regards to work, i was really strict on not having my email on my phone when i worked in PA.

Fortunately, some companies are moving back to supplying phones for their employees. It makes a huge difference not having work pop up when I’m on my personal phone.

I used to check first thing. It was a horrible habit because for the same reason as you, it stressed me out. Now, before I log off for the evening, I make a note at what time I need to start the next day. I usually start around 8 am, but there are days I need to start earlier or have flexibility to start closer to 9. I don’t check my phone, etc. until I start. It took a lot of practice because the stress/anxiety was killing me. But I need time to take care of things in the morning and have my coffee.

I do not have notifications on my phone for my work email/Teams. I have apps, but nothing dings or pops up. I keep all work apps in a folder together that is easy to ignore. I generally do not check my work stuff on my phone at all unless I'm away from my computer during working hours (picking up my kids from school) or am expecting something important. Otherwise, I don't use my phone apps for work. When I turn on my computer at 8:30, that's when I check everything.

I have a work phone and a personal phone. The work phone stays at my work desk. I hardly use it.

Never! I am not getting paid for working outside of my 7am to 4pm schedule

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.
