Update to this little fiasco - in the final stages of negotiating two new jobs at better agencies and both significant pay increase - both leadership positions.
That’s amazing.
Send them a follow up email which summarizes the conversation in a non-threatening way ("thank you for the guidance/advice yesterday on my career outlook in advertising at this stage in life, I appreciate your perspective, blah blah blah")--to get them to respond/acknowledge they said it, so if you are let go you have some strength and legal leverage.
Yes! Always follow up verbal conversations like this with an email.
Inappropriate and illegal. Your life, your career, your choice. Find somewhere you are appreciated. Experience is priceless. The young ones need strong leadership - I’ve seen what happens when there is a whole agency of 20-somethings and it is unspeakable.
Jesus. I’d say talk to HR. But they are worthless
How old is the agency MD?
How did it come up? Maybe you are aging out. Just being honest (as someone who probably is as well). There’s a reason this group exists.
🙄
I just turned 50. I “aged out” years ago, so I’m basically stuck riding this razor blade through to retirement. And given where I am, I’ll be lucky to get 2 more raises in that time.
What is this "raise" you speak of?
Also curious how that would come up. Sounds so incredibly illegal.
Yes!!!! Congrats
You made my morning!
Change to what, exactly?
That’s a euphemism for 'get out’
There are agencies and companies who will love your experience. Polish up your resume and get out of there. Be glad the MD is telling you this to your face and not just behind your back.
