Rising Star
Don't worry, planet will be uninhabitable long before that.
Chief
We won’t ever reach the stars. The journeys take too long. The closest star is like 24 trillion miles away (4.25 light years). Keeping generations of people alive without becoming inbred is a problem we won’t solve. Additionally the impact on the body of space travel (mainly cancer from radiation) is probably unsolvable too. The Apollo missions reached 25,000 mph and it would take them more than 100,000 years to cover that distance. We have no idea how to make a spacecraft last that long.
At best we’ll send out robotic probes with an AI built in that can talk to any aliens it meets. It will retain a memory of what mankind was like long after we die out.
Colonising Mars or a moon of Jupiter might be possible.
This thread is giving me flashbacks to reading Three Body Problem. I quite like it.
Agreed! Absolutely amazing. Shame that it takes 🇨🇳 to push the US to take space seriously again. What happened to pursuing exploration and innovation? What Elon Musk has done is incredible 👏
Re-edit to say ‘what Gwynne Shotwell and all the team at Space X have done is amazing’.
Amazing!!!!
I happened to spontaneously see the Falcon 9 take off from Cape Canaveral on May 17th. It was a super emotional experience.
How fantastic to see the launch and booster landing. Wow.
What did Elon do exactly?
This is so unhinged 😳
I’m sure we will find a way to mess it up. “playing in the stars” will be signing up for corporate indentured servitude for a chance to get off the dying earth.
