It’s definitely lower maintenance than loose natural hair, but not no maintenance! Reties take time, and you still need to keep your scalp clean and moisturized. But styling is almost effortless!
I’ve had SL for 3 years now and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made when it comes to my hair. I do my reties every 6 weeks. It takes about 1.5 to 2hrs each time. I shampoo my hair once every week because I work out a lot. I use a Sisterlocs treatment and a Sisterlocs leave in conditioner once every two weeks after washing my hair because I have color, otherwise you don’t use any products with Sisterlocs. Styling is super easy, literally shake and go. My hair is longer now so I can do ponytails too. It saved me sooooo much time and honestly, and the stress of figuring out what I’m going to do with my hair!
I’ve had sister locs for a while now, and honestly, they’re much lower-maintenance compared to styling my hair daily. You do need to maintain the roots, but once they settle, it’s mostly about regular washing and oiling. Definitely saves time in the long run!
As much as locs are really low maintenance compared to other hairstyles, that itself can be a disadvantage. Because of stereotypes, there are people who just won't understand why you're not giving your locs more attention.
