I am in a union. The last strike happened before I started in the district and I am in my 27th year. It does happen in the area, but generally not until teachers have been without a contract for quite some time. But because it is an option, I think most districts are more willing to come to the table. We are going into negotiations for our next contract. Our union has already started listening to what our most important priorities are and letting us know what are the things we might have to give on. Much happier having one contract for all teachers than each teacher having their own.
One contract seems best to me too
It seems like I remember it happening in CA. Anyone else remember it?
In my state, a teacher strike is a very big deal. Jail time and large fines involved. We are public employees, considered essential. Just like police and fire. So it's gotta be *real* bad before we do that. We do sometimes work to rule, or stage an informational picket.
Many districts in my state go on strike. I remember walking the picket line about 20 years ago. Strikes by teachers come with conditions and time lengths.
There were a couple of teacher’s strikes here in MA during the last couple of years. Andover MA ultimately got a good raise from it, but then had a lot of layoffs to cover those costs. I wish I knew someone who worked there. I would love to hear their take on the whole thing.
We are not in a union ( I am glad) and we are a right to work state. I would rather have lower pay than be in an union so we will not strike

There was a short strike in my district about a decade before
It's hard because I would hope it would make a difference, but I also know it would be hard for most teachers to do that with the low wages.
Yea. That seems to be the hardest part
