If you’re single/childless I wouldn’t recommend leaving the loop. Midtown, Upper Kirby, and Montrose all have great complexes that are very nice and reasonably affordable. The value for leaving the loop doesn’t really hit until you’re wanting to buy a house.
If you want a nice spot in the suburbs you could look at Cinco Ranch or The Woodlands mall area. But not sure either is going to cost you much less than living in a decent spot inside the loop.
@SAP1 Agree, I’m in Montrose. But OP said they wanted the suburbs.
If you like the finer things, then look at Hanover Montrose or Hanover River Oaks apartments. They are super pricey, but in great walkable areas, close commuting distance to downtown, and most of the tenants in those buildings also share a like for luxury things so you’ll be in similar company

Do yourself a favor and stay inside the 610 loop. The really wealthy neighborhoods are West U and River Oaks, but anywhere from there to and including Downtown will have lots of fine dining.
Also if you have specific apartment complex / condo recommendations - that would be very helpful!
What do you all think of Sugarland?
Very safe and friendly but family oriented
I just moved here with McK too and live in the heights, 10 min drive to the office and fun neighborhood
My friends at elan heights love it
Did you ever check out Towne Lakes or Bridgeland in Cypress? Pretty much up and coming areas, but kinda feel like you’d be better off buying the property as opposed to renting in the suburbs.
