Surfside is less crowded than Galveston. Jamaica Beach, Padre Island or Corpus Christi
My family and I went on a dolphin tour by the pier. That was relaxing and we saw a lot of dolphin. They also have fishing tours as well. The Pier has some amusement area. Also check out Kemah Boardwalk and The Waterfall by the Galleria. I go to the Waterfall to meditate during my lunch hour but I don’t live far.
I would make the drive down to Port Aransas (about 45 minutes from Corpus Christi, which is a little over three hours south of Houston). The water is actually blue/green and you can see the sea turtles and dolphins. The sediment from the Mississippi River is what makes Galveston’s waters look so brown. However, there is more non-beach things to see and do in Galveston and better food options.
Second that - have been to Corpus Christi and Port Aransas and the water was very good - it took us about 3 hrs to drive there from Houston. But water there is very good.
Galveston is a lot of fun. Folks love to dog the beaches, but there are a lot of good days this time of year and a lot to do besides the beach
would second Galveston - besides the beach, there are many other activities like rides on pier, moody gardens, buggy rides, camping and more
Good restaurants in Galveston: Rainforest Cafe (mixed cuisine), Salsas (Mexican cuisine)
San Luis pass. Fun driving your car out onto the dunes and then letting the pups run around the beach!
I agree with this comment. I love San Luis Pass. Such a fun day trip with friends. We go out there often in the summer.
lol.
