Looking for general feedback on career growth and compensation expectations. I’ve broke down the last 10 yrs of experience since some may argue the mil exp may/may not be relevant. Non-technical bachelors degree, 5 yrs Army Intel (active TS/SCI), 2.5 yrs of intel analysis (consulting), and 3.5 yrs of Data Analytic (evaluating data feed requests prior to Data Ingest and data preprocessing for Data Science use in their logistic regression models). See comments for continuation…

Python is less about "python" but what you do with it. Go deep on DS frameworks, and add in some model maintenance stuff.

The certs you listed off won't do much for you. Wouldn't bother even leaning that much into security as a study topic. Instead, replace them with more breadth in databases and cloud. If you really want a cert for your resume, cloud vendor ones are the way to go.

As career expectations go, there's no reason you shouldn't make it into consulting as an experienced hire on a non-DS team, or as an analyst in DS. You can look these numbers up. Actual DS roles will be harder, since your starting point is essentially BI-lite. While you've worked with data, you'd be new to most processes, so have yet to become a "data person" in spite constantly being around data through your career.

If you want faster advancement in DS, maybe look at areas where you can specialize. Having active clearance does open up a whole niche market for you, and you should expect a slightly better offer than you would outside. Large B2B firms tend to have these positions, not just consulting companies.

Other viable positions it seems you're not leaning toward are in sales and management. These are obviously much more people facing, so you'd have fewer technical experience requirements against you, but could build some overlapping skills.

I’m currently in the process of acquiring more technical skills, such as SQL, Python, Tableau training and Sec+, CEH, Splunk certification, followed by further Python & Linux training. Wanting to go more of a DevOps/DS route. Looking for input on what would be considered a fair or competitive salary range, and addition skill sets worth exploring. Thanks!

Beginning to think I structured a (freelance) project poorly. Deliverables are 3-5 T-shirt designs, which will *also* serve as part of foundation for their existing branding.
I’m working at my hourly rate, and delivered several concept sketches. Since they want to use these designs for multiple swag items beyond T-shirts, should I have included licensing fees per usage (mugs, etc), or just raised my hrly rate? Or just do flat rate per concept that details usage options?
Sorry so detailed! TIA!
