Movers are for sure the way to go. More cost effective, less work, and better insurance coverage for your stuff.
Moving out to sea? Like a house boat? Nice.
I used Gentle Giant because I had some delicate and expensive furniture that I wanted moved safely. They did a fantastic job on everything -even my crappy ikea furniture made it without a scratch. I looked into Pods but knew too many people that had a bad experience.
Recently had an awful cross country move. I'd do a lot of things to do this over... Following to ensure I don't make the same errors again AND will share advice as it becomes warranted. Good luck OP!!
Following - similar move coming up. Any other mover recommendations, and how much did you guys pay for movers? Also moving 1 bedroom
Or maybe hire movers to pack the pod, and the hire local Movers in your new area to unpack the pod, save money on transportation
I've had an issue with the insurance company picking up their phone and honoring their commitment. I did all the research one could possibly do online and didn't try to cut any financial corners. If I could do over I would choose a large national moving company like Atlas, VanLines, etc OR do as @A2 recommended.
National movers like United or Mayflower. They will come do a walk-through of your home and give you a not to exceed quote. Final pricing will be based on actual weight. That's federal law for interstate moves. We moved across country, we boxed everything except for the kitchen. So we paid them to load and to pack all of the dishes and glassware boxes.
Thanks all. This is a great start. House boat here I come!!
Pods are probably no good for cross country moves. I used them for an in-town move with extended storage and a lot of my stuff got scratched... probably because I didn’t pack it well though...
They all have the same insurance. It is a few cents per pound of stuff they break
Movers hands down
