West London! I (29F) moved here from LA 4 years ago and have tried out a bunch of different neighbourhoods. Kensington, Fulham, Chelsea are great and I feel super safe here. DM me if you have any questions :)
Seconding Kensington and Chelsea if you can afford it! Lots of Americans.
Where will you be working? Do you have friends who live in London? If yes, where? What’s your budget?
Depending on your answers, nice neighborhoods with good parks and transportation links:
North London - Tufnell Park, West Hampstead, Stoke Newington, maybe Highbury?
West London - Westbourne Park/area around Little Venice, St John’s Wood, Holland Park
East London - very cool, not as dog-friendly imo. Around London fields could be nice?
Moved here from NYC a few years ago with a dog. It’s VERY hard to find a pet-friendly flat (and I’d imagine worse these days) so bank on at least a couple months in an Airbnb. Once you have a place, London is super dog friendly, it’s amazing. Feel free to DM me for advice on bringing a dog into the UK (short answer: ferry from France).
Safety tends to vary on an almost block by block basis here—you don’t really get whole neighborhoods that are safe or unsafe. Also be sure to get an estimate of bills and council tax, as those will add at least a couple hundred a month to your living expenses. (Council tax is like property tax except bizarrely renters have to pay it rather than landlords). Mold is very common here and for some reason people think that’s normal—get a dehumidifier and an air purifier as soon as you move in. Oh and register at a GP as soon as you have a place (but make sure your work provide private medical insurance bc the Tories have completely gutted the NHS)
London fields is great. Anywhere close to Victoria Park!
Clapham is definitely a good place. Average age is around 25 and plenty of greenery for the pup. Good travel points too (tube/train/bus) and 20 minutes on the train away from Gatwick
Was coming to say clapham as well. Sounds like it would fit well for you.
Hackney
True, but look at Crystal Roof.
