Never lived there but visited and always liked it. Also, anyone I've ever met who lived there had nothing but praise.
I’ve lived in Alameda for about four years now and just bought a house here. Love it.
My partner’s mom and dad lived there for a few years before kids and loved it. I think they wanted to be closer to family when they had kids so they moved to North Beach.

Depends on your stage of life.
Its safe, quiet, clean. If youre a professional with young kids and dont spend a ton of town "out & about" it works well.
If a city that is sleepy, and shuts down by 830PM at night sound like it would drive you insane. Dont move there.
Yes the ferry is great. Check the ferry schedules to see if your work ever takes you beyond. You can take an Uber in that scenario so budget that in.
To drive into Alameda--there are two choke points. Depending on how you feel about that, it could be a factor. Adding that if youre thinking about buying--there may be flood risks in certain areas.
Thanks for the input! Yeah that sounds about perfect. We are both 30, having kids next year and are looking for a sleepy town that has some family centric activities in a walkable community. A dive bar or two that is open until 9pm is more than enough for us lol.
We will be sharing a car and wouldn’t plan on leaving the island by car much and would opt for transit when possible so that shouldn’t be an issue.
My office is right at the ferry point in the city so that would be perfect, thanks for sharing all this! Sounds like it will be a good fit but will continue reaching out to confirm
