Been away from SF for 8 months. How is SF now?

That will be a terrible commute. I hope you have an employee shuttle. Without a car, you would need to take Caltrain.
You literally sound like me. I’m moving from nyc to sf soon as well in the coming months! Have never left nyc either. DM me, would love to make friends as we move out there
Which part of Palo Alto tho?
^ important question. If your office is near the Caltrain, you can live in SF near a Caltrain stop and not need a car. If your office is not near the Caltrain, you’ll need to drive or take a combination of train + local buses.
I moved to SF a few months ago in a similar situation. Key questions:
Is your office close to the Palo Alto Caltrain station? Does your employer have an employee shuttle?
If there's no shuttle, but the office is close to Caltrain, then you can live in SF in SoMa or Dogpatch within walking distance of Caltrain, and use it as a one seat commute. Messing around with busses to/from caltrain sucks, and biking is a better option. SoMa is a better option than Dogpatch, imo, because you get express (bullet) train access, and the future 4th street subway/rail will make it easier to get to market street.
If there is a shuttle, get a map and live near a shuttle stop.
Appreciate the insight! So I’ll be working around Stanford so no employee shuttle unfortunately, but it does seem like soma, Potrero hill and dog patch might be my best options rn since they are closest to the Caltrain
I am a former New Yorker that has lived in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and San Jose. This would be a terrible commute but I would recommend that you live near the Caltrain if you must live in San Francisco.
Two different vibes. It’s really like comparing apples to oranges. What you get in one place, you won’t get in another and vice versa.
If you want an easy commute to palo alto look in South Beach/SOMA so you are near caltrain.
If you live by the Bart, you’re basically good to go
Technically you could do Bart millbrae line then switch to Caltrain there. But do your research on the exact schedules to see if it lines up and gets you to work on time
