My law clerk is getting ready to start her 2L year. (This is my first time having one.) I’m looking for some ways we can show our appreciation to her for all the great work she did this summer.

Her plan is to take a week off to focus on classes and then return to work for us for the remainder of the year. Should we just do a bonus in December?

Is she working full time / going to school at night? Or working part time?

Either way, if your firm does mid year bonuses I think that would be nice.

Otherwise I think there are other options either from the firm or you individually (gift card of some sort, work or trial bag, gift basket, etc.) I think it’s a really nice idea and anything, even if small, would be appreciated!

She’ll continue working part-time with us. Those are all great ideas. Thank you!

Thinking about moving to SF! Any recs of customer insights/brand strategy consultancies?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

Additional Posts in Small Law / Solos

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

Advice for Of Counsel roles? I am of counsel at a firm where I can set my own rate and keep a percentage of collections, which varies slightly depending on whether the client is one I generated or not. What is the right way for me to be compensated in this scenario?

Hi. I’m in need of advice and encouragement. I’m currently working as a public defender(2nd year) but I would love to pursue a solo private practice. I would like to leave the public defender because I am ready to make more money and I am no longer feeling the fulfillment I once felt. I have a family and work-life balance is a priority. What is a good way to gain experience in other areas of law as a solo practitioner? What areas of law are best for maintaining a work-life balance?

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. Managing attorneys in small firms - how much do you make?

I'm in South Florida. Currently a 6 year associate at a small firm (~12 attorneys, 55 staff). Making a move towards Managing Attorney position that they are considering hiring from outside the firm for. I'm going to make the case that they should promote from within and give me the position. I'm objectively a good candidate for it. Question is... what's a good salary for that position? What do you make? Thanks.
