Is it easier to move from management consulting to deals or vice versa?

What do you think differentiated you in the first few years of your career? What big picture takeaways in terms of both hard / soft skills do you wish you spent more time on? Current second year IB analyst curious to hear your thoughts

I’ve got a friend in Dubai who has experience in IB and VC at junior levels (in London and Dubai) and would like to break into consulting. He’s at a small cap VC at the moment and works not that challenging, and he wants to break into MBB or tier 2 for strategy. Anyone happy to look at his CV?

Hi fishies! Considering an internal big 4 move from Western Europe to Dubai. Not sure about WLB and whether there’ll be enough growth and learning opportunities after reading some of the threads here. Anyone up for sharing their experience? Especially concerned about sexism / racism as a WOC…and whether moving back to Europe in a few years will be difficult because the ME experience won’t be considered valuable.

Okay so I’m a newly licensed attorney in a very conservative part of TX. I just got my first job offer and I was worried at first thinking that I was in “Trump” territory, but I tested the waters in my interview and spoke about police injustices and how prosecutor’s job is not only to protect victims, but also defendants from police injustices. I have to let them know by tomorrow, but thoughts on if this is a good career move for someone who wants to work in transactional work-RE or Bankruptcy?

Recently got my CPA license in August & considering leaving public accounting for Industry. Should I expect my new role to pay for my CPA license renewals/AICPA membership/CPE classes? These things add up &I feel like should be considered when transitioning. Thoughts?

Can anyone explain the difference between PWC SDC, PWC AC and PWC India?

I am trying to get into PWC. here are a few things I have heard so far. Is this fairly accurate?

1. PwC AC is offshore counterpart of PwC US. Good salary. No travel opportunities. Average yearly hike ~10% Mostly technical work.
2 PwC India is a pure consulting firm. Salary better than PwC AC. client facing work. Can grow as a management consultant. Great Travel opportunities.

Hi fishies 🐠 I’m an Art Director that’s trying to transition over to UX Design. I have experience building websites and some previous freelance work doing some UI/UX. What’s the best route to transition over and would I need to apply for entry level roles? Does an AD role with a UI/UX focus even exist? What year of practice did you start handling closings on your own?

I recently had an interview with HCL and cleared 2 rounds of technical interview. I waited for a week for HR call but no such call was received. I then contacted the POC who scheduled the interview (he is an HCL employee) and he said that I have been shortlisted and will receive HR call shortly. This was 1 week ago and I have still not received any call. Has anyone else faced the same issue? And if yes, should I even expect a call fro HR?

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice? I have another offer who are paying me 18.7 lpa (17 fixed + 1.7 var) + 1 lakh JB.
My current CTC is 10.75 (8.05 + var) and YOE 3.6
Is it possible to negotiate with IBM.
I have left with 45 days notice period.

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

Has anyone left, or had an associate leave, a small firm and remain of counsel or in some other capacity to assist with a handful of matters going to trial? How did you structure compensation? Don’t want to leave my boss in the lurch with some big cases going to trial at end of year but also can’t use those as excuses to stay. Would like to offer a reasonable proposal. Even if boss turns it down, I’ll feel better about knowing I offered to help.

Former client( filed a bar grievance that was dismissed, sent me a demand letter that an attorney responded to on my behalf, and filed a BBB complaint against my non-BBB law firm) has now pro se filed a lawsuit against me in small claims court. Alleging misrepresentation, failure to file a lawsuit, and failure to advise during the process. I have phone logs, emails, and billing notes (all of which she has) that show she’s lying. Has anyone received equity as contingency comp? I have a potential client with a founders dispute. He doesn’t have cash, and the other founder ripped him off and is now running the company. He wants to sue for equity and wants to pay me with whatever equity he wins. I’ve never done a deal like that. Is that even enforceable? CA law. The startup is actually quite promising.

How difficult is it to start a solo firm? I’m a first year attorney working in insurance defense in Florida. A friend of mine and I are both starting our life firms from scratch. We both do two different areas of law. How can we help each other with referrals and networking? We live in an area that’s pretty geographically large in two different parts of town.

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.

Has anyone butted heads with an office manager their age? We have a new one who seems to be trying to control my schedule during Covid (ie she assigns me office days without asking me, if I leave the office early or don’t come in one day due to video calls she emails me and tells me I need to inform her of my whereabouts), when that has never been part of her job duties before.
