I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

I’ll go in once a quarter to have lunch with people. That’s about it.
I've been remote for my entire career of 15 years (consulting) so Covid was just more of the same for me. There's nothing better than working remotely - I get to play with my kids, spend more time with my wife, work from various parts of the world for brief stints of 1 month at a time every few months, work in my pajamas, just attend meeting then work at night if I want to etc. It's the ultimate freedom and feels like an early retirement. I can't even imagine working from an office 5 days a week and having to work late so that you don't look like a slacker. Seems like jail to me.
Yeah, I think maybe first year, new hires have to be at the office everyday until they can prove that they can deliver, then gradually phase in work from home days. Maybe people come in once a week for a team status meeting and that’s it. I can understand needing a trial period for people who haven’t proven themselves yet. But for people that have been there 3+ years and have already demonstrated success working in the office and remotely, I don’t see why you wouldn’t give them the benefit of working remotely to increase their job satisfaction and retain them. People end up working more remotely anyway because they are comfortable and have no commute.

Save like a bandit. With money in the bank you can just say no. Become such a great talent that you are indispensable. Then demand remote.
Can also say this was my personal strategy for navigating current and recent conversations.
Also as a senior. If you can be trusted in client facing roles, and you can make the most out of the opportunities you’re given, and you have strong autonomy - you’re hard to replace with another Sr. Especially when push comes to shove.
Screw the office, I want to be in the same room as my creative partner. Could be at their place, a bar, my place, a park bench, etc. I hate concepting through Zoom, it’s just not the same as in person.
I’m with you. But my partner is actively fighting to go back at LEAST 3 times a week. 🤮
Yeah, I mean I understand her reasoning. She’s a social person and she lives alone. The pandemic has been hard on a lot of people. I’m fortunate that I love my spouse and have room in my apartment for a dedicated work space. I’m sympathetic to those who don’t have those things. There will have to be compromising, particularly for those of us who are partnered.
Only meet up for lunch or drinking time.
Good luck. Agencies will require it at some point. Maybe not all 5 days, but they will.
Agencies will die at some point. Good luck to you too. ❤️
No, afraid not. I miss it. Don’t want to do it every day but I miss having another dimension to my life.
💯💯💯💯 I feel the same.
I’m back already and hating it. I used to like my shop but I’m not sure I can do it anymore. I can wfh just fine
