My manager has a habit of piling work on me, and meanwhile, I’ll glance over and see her scrolling through news articles or handling personal errands at her desk. It honestly drives me a little crazy. Has anyone else noticed their boss doing the same kind of thing?

I had a boss exactly like that, and all I could do was not let it get to me. I did the work I was given, and if it became more than I could reasonably do during my work hours, I would tell him he would have to prioritize the tasks as I would not be getting to them all. I was not going to work harder because of his poor management.

That sounds similar! It’s hard not to feel resentful when I’m slammed while my boss is clearly not. I’ve started documenting what I can reasonably handle and thinking about how to bring up task prioritization without sounding confrontational.

Thankful to be remote so I maintain the naivety that everyone is doing their fair share

Haha yes, ignorance is bliss sometimes! Being remote definitely helps preserve that illusion. Out of sight, out of mind. Honestly, it's probably better for everyone's sanity that way!

Mine doesn't read the news, she just scrolls social media. It's maddening because I'm over here trying to juggle 37 different projects while she's completely coasting. Must be nice.

Ugh, I feel that. It’s so demoralizing watching someone scroll Instagram while you're drowning in deadlines. It really makes you question the whole idea of leadership sometimes.

I used to have a boss like that and it drove me nuts. That was part of the reason that I left because I was getting too much dumped on me all the time. Its so frustrating when you have a boss that isn't in the trenches with you.

Totally get that! It’s exhausting carrying the weight while your manager checks out. It’s hard to stay motivated when it feels so one-sided. Honestly, that kind of dynamic can really push good people out the door.

Yep! We have a boss that has spent 6 months abroad not replying to many of our messages when we are all working crazy hours!

Wow, that would drive me up the wall. It’s one thing to take time away, but completely checking out while the rest of the team is overloaded? That’s just bad leadership.

Hello everyone!

Currently looking to jump from Health Care to Pharma/Biotech. Does anyone work at Gilead and can serve as a reference? The current department I’m in, I do not fit the culture as it is a very archaic way of “managing” people. I have about a decade of a variety of work experience, majority in customer service/coordination/administration.

Would love any assistance if possible!
