Whatever the underlying reason for the denial will probably come up.
What if the issue is specific to classified information issues, like foreign contacts/polygraph stuff?
Obviously, debts and drug use could sink public trust. But if it's stuff that only comes up as an issue in a classified setting, public trust shouldn't be affected, right?
The public trust investigation takes place for all clearance levels. It’ll definitely be affected. There’s a reason there are lawyers dedicated to clearance denial cases and you really should get one
